I’m going to Barcelona in a few weeks for dinner at Disfrutar. I’ll be there for four nights total. I’ve narrowed down the options - but I’m not sure if I should swap one of these for Maleducat or something else? I’ve read such good things about Maleducat, but I also don’t want to give up my other picks! My parents can’t stomach two big tasting menus in a row (or on the day of our arrival from the US), so looking for places with an a la carte option:
Wednesday - Bar Canete (is it too touristy? I was thinking classic tapas could be good for arrival night)
Thursday - Berbena (is it special enough? I was thinking relatively straight forward food would be good to keep our stomachs settled before our big meal)
Friday - Disfrutar
Saturday - Mont Bar (do the flavor combinations work? Will it seem too similar to Disfrutar? I liked that it has an a la carte menu if we’re still full from the night before)
Mont Bar has definitely moved upscale in the past couple of years, but still served a la carte when I was there last year. However if you don’t already have a reservation, you may already be too late. It’s deservedly popular and on my ‘regular’ list. Can’t help with the others.
Thank you! Very helpful. I have a reservation for Mont Bar - sounds like I’ll keep it!
I’m a big fan of Taberna Noroeste. It’s a tasting menu (which I know you are looking to avoid) but a shorter one, just 6 smaller dishes. Only a few tables, with a very intimate feel. Flavors are from several regions stretching from Galciia to the Basque Country. It has achieved a Michelin star but still somewhat under the radar. Among the best meals we’ve had in Barcelona post-covid in that price range.
Mont Bar has become less reliable in my view (based a few visits and some of my friends who live full time in BCN). It’s also firmly in the set of must tries across various online media and social media lists meaning mostly non-locals.

Thank you! Taberna Noroeste was not on my list, but it looks delicious! I’ll see if I can talk my parents into a small tasting menu =)
I wrote reviews on both Canete and Disfruta about a year ago. Feel free to search and read about them.
For me, Canete’s offering and quality is slightly above your regular Tapas establishments fare, nothing you can’t find in places like San Sebastian or Madrid though. The price point was also higher too. Lots of American’ tourists when we were there!
Disfruta was something special! The experiences from the first 14 or so courses were indeed fascinating and enjoyable. Talk about eye-opener! However, the ’ mostly gimmicky ’ affair slowly became tiresome and I found the 4+ hour experience, seating on an uncomfortable bench, a bit too long and torturous.
