Where can I find bao buns in San Francisco, preferably in the southern part of the city, Ocean Avenue, Outer Mission or Daly City? Does H-Mart sell them? We’re making pork belly with fixins. Thanks.
Not sure exactly what you’re looking for, but you’ll probably have good luck in the frozen section of H Mart or 99 ranch.
If you’re looking for plain unfilled buns - “bao” simply means ‘bread’ - to stuff with pork belly, an easy option is King’s Hawaiian rolls. They’re small, soft, sweet, and delicious. Get 'em at Costco.
I’m looking for these steamed buns. Funny, I was thinking if I don’t find them I’ll use Kings Hawaiian as a backup. H-Mart has a vast selection of frozen buns but they are all filled.
Sounds like you’re looking for Lotus leaf bun/bread. They’re really easy to make. I swear I’ve seen them at H-Mart (the only link I can find for delivery is in NYC though for some reason), but if not you can also order them on Amazon. I definitely wouldn’t use Kings Hawaiian as a replacement though.
