[Bangkok] Khao Man Kai/ข้าวมันไก่ (Hainanese chicken rice) from Lanfah

Lanfah khao man kai (Hainanese chicken rice) along Thanon Mahannop is one of the best lunch options in this area if you’re opting for something lighter than a full course meal at nearby Krua Apsorn or Chote Chitr. The smallish eatery serves Betong chicken (owner hails from the Betong district of Yala province).

The rice was perfectly balanced, not as rich in taste as the version from the venerable Sui Heng. But this 2 decade-old spot hold its own in the quality of poached chicken, and also serves chicken gizzards, liver, blood and heart.

A small bowl of light chicken soup, with cubes of softened radish and sprinkled with chopped scallions, was a perfect accompaniment to the chicken rice plate.

Typical of Thai-style Hainanese chicken rice the dip was Chinese bean-sauce spiked with chillis. Different from Hainanese chicken rice in neighbouring Malaysia or Singapore where the dips are pounded chilli paste, diluted in vinegar, sugar and chicken oil, and also a thick ginger puree.
