August trip to New York City

Here, too. I also vividly remember the car service driver who ferried me to LaGuardia years ago spending most of the trip schooling me on why I shouldn’t be taking a business trip alone, because what would my husband think? I told him I didn’t have a husband. Okay, then what would my father think? That was a long ride.

Clearly, we are all starved for this kind of discussion, so there will not be a shortage of responses

I was so annoyed when I was in Oahu, Maui and Kauai, traveling solo, that taxi drivers, shuttle drivers, hotel clerks and one tour guide in particular, would ask if my husband or boyfriend would be joining me.

I had avoided Hawaii because I was single - finally had the confidence to go solo at 46, and these people don’t pick up that it’s offputting to a traveller- who might have tipped well, to be asked nosy questions about a significant other. I loved Hawaii and I’m glad I went before the pandemic, but I was surprised how clueless some ppl were because they’re mostly used to dealing with couples and families, and not ppl travelling alone.

(Sorry for hijacking)

Why…why do people think this is an acceptable topic? What’s wrong with “where are you from”? I’ve taken a lot of solo trips in the U.S. and Europe without that kind of nonsense, but my four trips to Hawaii have been with a companion. Now I feel lucky.

Agree with the second half of that sentence, El Quinto Pino’s uni panino is my favorite sandwich - but confused about the Brooklyn mention. What am I missing?

Oh sorry misreply - that was more about trekking out to Brooklyn for la vara! Saregama’s mention

Oh! Ok.

It has been a long time. Have forgotten exact locations … Thank you.

Leonelli is closed permanently. Benno is expanding and redoing the bar/restaurant into bistro called Bar Benno. I’m waiting for Benno to reopen. That is a great spot. The clam and uni pasta is a killer.

We been to La Vara a couple times this year. Have been going there for a while as a cousin lives close by. The food is quite good. But it gets expensive real quick depending on what you order.

Leonelli was posting photos of their focaccia on IG today. Maybe they were closed, but it appears they are currently open for business.

I hope to try whatever restaurant Benno is involved with on my next visit, whenever that is.

I get the impression that the Leonelli restaurant and bar space are permanently closed , while the Leonelli bakery and café space are still open.

Yes, Leonelli Bakery, located near the hotel’s front entrance, remains open. Bar Benno, formerly Leonelli Restaurant, is at the rear of the lobby. Benno, his eponymous upscale restaurant, located at the rear several steps up from the lobby, has not yet reopened but will sometime in September.

Suggestion, go to museums and take a raincoat and umbrella and boots …

This weather is probably due to the Hurricane (s) perhaps …

Best wishes. Safe travels.

Wear your mask.

Don’t worry about anyone else (especially outdoors) - you’ll drive yourself crazy.

Lots of tourists in town at the moment, especially in midtown.
