Arepa 2GO [Southsea, Portsmouth]

@mods, I tried tagging the location but it throws up the name of a completely different restaurant that is no longer trading.

A cute and casual little Venezuelan restaurant in our neighborhood. Run by a family who are extremely warm and friendly. Prices are a bit high but Venezuelan restaurants are as rare as hen’s teeth in this part of the world.

Menu is short and sweet:

They always throw in a free order of the ‘mini arepas’, which are essentially little puffy triangles of corn masa. Like the best Doritos ever. Served with a little pot of cream cheese.

I usually have an arepa (which are massive, and filled to bursting), but today we were feeling like empanadas. One order of cheese, one of beef and we swapped so that we had one of each to eat.

Freshly fried, piping hot, super tasty and very filling.

To drink, they have some soft and alcoholic drinks imported from Venezuela. We tried a Golden. The description said something about a champagne cola but it tasted like an ice cream soda.

We try and come here at least once every couple of months. It’s a good place to have nearby.

Those look great! Wonder if my bestie ever went there before she moved to London. I’ll have to ask.
