Area breweries that make belgians?

Fieldwork has locations all over the place. They usually have a large variety of styles and a few Belgians. I also think they deliver.

Yeah, Fieldwork.

I think I’m going to have to re-file Fieldwork as Belgian-friendly. I just looked at the San Mateo location and they’re pouring 4 things I would call belgian — so they might even be the best ATM, if Blue Oak and Laughing Monk are down to maybe-one each in the Belgian category.

I find the beers at Harmonic in SF to be very well made. Not a Belgian specialist, but always have at least a sour or saison on tap and in the past have made a dubbel and a Belgian white ale, so worth checking what’s on tap if you are in the area. They just opened a spot below the Chase Center, but I like the mothership on 26th off of Third. Very low key spacious tasting room and usually a good food truck.

I’m curious about what you think of Fieldwork’s Belgians. I found them to be not very “Belgian” tasting. This was on my last visit to the San Mateo location, a couple of years ago.

We went to the Refuge in San Mateo and didn’t love it. It’s all the same food and mostly the same beers as the other locations, but it feels more generic than the locations in SC and MP that we have come to love. We’ll stick with those locations, although we may have had a different feeling if we sat on the patio. It’s still a patio overlooking a concrete mall parking lot.

I got some crowlers from Blue Oak of their one belgian, and it’s great. Maybe having only one beer is fine as long as its good. Now I have to remember to just keep my actual growler in the car for when I’m going north… I like the tall boy cans of Tremens but those are EXPENSIVE and I’d rather have 32oz of Blue Oak and 16oz of Tremens.

We had ‘beer o ween’ with a keg from Devil’s Canyon (because it’s the closest brewery to the house of the friends where we do it). The number of adults tricker or treating was low, so we ended up returning an annoyingly full keg. I think their beer may well be on the upswing though - we got the Kolsch instead of the standard Full Boar and it was pretty tasty.

Will report on Fieldwork.

If not restricted to breweries, the Monk’s Kettle in SF usually has several Belgians on tap, and many more in their bottle menu.

Thanks for the pointer, SF’s out of our usual range for a casual beer.

Finally got to Fieldwork in San Mateo. 4 Belgians on tap, very tasty.

Importantly, they encourage outside food. Get some tacos or whatever elsewhere, camp out with your beers at their pleasant tables.
