Are the French Laundry and Per Se Still Worth a Splurge? We Went Back to See.

we did a way-ahead planned vacation stint to SFO.
since we were that far, decided to try the French Laundry.
their web site did not accept reservations. it was being “reconstructed” . . . for over six months . . . moving at not the speed of light . . .
they don’t answer their phone. for any reason. no matter how long you let it ring.
they don’t respond to emails, for any reason.
they don’t respond to USPS mail inquiries.

apparently unless your name starts or ends with “newsom” or “pelosi” - there is absolutely no way you can get in.

otoh - Keller’s Bouchon in Las Vegas is a real jewel. it’s on our “must do” list for any LV visit.

So, in short — you’ve not dined at either.

Rumor has it that you wait for a mudslide on the 29. We went once, but it was about 30 years ago.

nope.

not possible. no ability allowed.

There is hardly any restaurant on the Michelin 2/3 star level (not only TFL) which allows you to get reservation through email or phone as it would be a waste of resources (even just answering questions). You can get reservations through Tock or through concierge services of credit cards relatively easy (people might not like it but that’s how the system for such restaurants is working for the last 20 years)

ln that case, the article I posted will let you live vicariously through those who have been, and went back.

There are some TFL reports on HO here: The French Laundry [Yountville, California]

How recent? I thought the writers went back after years.

Well, the latest report is mine, and that was at the end of 2021. I really enjoyed that dinner. I haven’t been back since then though. Just linking to some impressions of TFL from this forum.
