Any BostOnions interested in a get-together?

PS - am I correct that failing in Phase 3 means a lot of $$$ down the drain? Ouch.

BTW, I love that it’s only taken 80+ posts to get something tangible on the books.

Were you at the CH gathering at the now-closed New Shanghai on Hudson st? I remember galleygirl, yumyum, 9lives, limster, rubee, beetlebug…I’m sure there were a couple more (niblet?) I remember another gathering at Peach Farm, which I’m told has since gone downhill…and another at Uni (which broke the bank) …

I agree with everything you stated @Parsnipity and not just because I like you. Social engagements should be fun and not have an iota of stress.

I don’t think I was at those specific Chowdowns, but I’ve broken bread with all of those on your list, except galleygirl, whose CH contributions I remember fondly. Did you @barleywino and I meet? I don’t think so but it was so long ago…we were all babies!

Speaking of babies, I remember one girl who I’m pretty sure was underage (I think she was an undergrad) but tagged along and managed to get herself served adult beverages in the general confusion without anyone noticing ;). I know because I remember ordering a Cosmopolitan for her at one point (that’s how long ago it was, before the cocktail revolution really took off in Boston)

Maybe scugini? She was very young with a fun personality. I liked her a lot and saw her at several outings.

Watching this space for when the choice is made to see if I am able to join.

Not just traffic – some of us don’t have cars. There are so many good restaurants out Metro West or even West Roxbury, but if it’s requiring train to bus to bus, or something complex like that with hair thin transfer times - on top of traffic for buses! - then even I have a tolerance for how much public transportation I am willing to do, especially after work. Heading out is only half the problem, but coming home starting at 8pm when trains/buses are less frequent, we’re talking possibly up to 2 hours to get home. That’s not really practical for some of us.

Exploring Babylon Saigon as the venue, for an elevated experience (pun intended), however it is not open on Monday, September 29, which is in the lead for date. It is open on Sunday October 5, which is the second-place date.

Just my 2 cents, I think travel is always going to present limitations for many of us, in one way or another. I didn’t respond to the survey because it sounded like we were considering Al Wadi or something out of metrowest, and I can’t make it out there. I would think moving to something closer to the city with traffic and parking challenges will do the same for those who find metrowest easier. I would start with the location, and let those who can and want to join that figure out date and time. To be inclusive, we can just choose different locations so that we may capture everyone who does want to get together to have a chance to do a get together.

I have hundreds of employees trapped with me in a building for 8 hours a day, and I still can’t find a time that works for most people for trainings and stuff. C’est la vie, c’est la guerre.

Trapped sounds a bit alarming. Do you at least provide a nice spread for lunch?

Pbbt, no. These are hour long trainings most of the time, maybe 1.5 hours at most. I also work at place that has a whole kitchen of snacks. Folks can bring them with them. And most people still don’t make an effort to come. For longer trainings, yes - we will offer snacks and/or real food. But if you don’t want to come, then don’t complain that you didn’t know you had to do something. But I digress!

A prior employer of mine would often bring in catering from Sam Lagrassa to tempt people to come to optional meetings or training. Instead, people would just hang out and chat near the conference room and wait until the end, at which point the remaining sandwiches would be put out…now often a few hours old and kind of crusted over in a bad way. Still, they’d disappear within minutes. Ahh, the joys of corporate life.

Okay, back to your show @MaxEntropy.

1000 points for superb use of the word trapped.

Also I appreciate your pragmatic nod to the different constraints folks face in traveling to a meetup.

I observe that people on this board are scattered throughout the area. Why if we weren’t, you and I would probably be sipping a Fluffy Seagull together and comparing notes for fun.

I’m fantasizing about a Hungry Onion shuttle, staffed with agents trained in extracting hostages trapped in corporate towers.
