Sorry for the delayed response @greygarious, but I was blissfully screen-free for much of yesterday and today.
I am hoping that these meetups will be as inclusive as possible, so perhaps there will be one in the Metro West region, where I think many Onions live. I’m sure the Onions are a trustworthy dependable bunch, but I’m not sure how comfortable any of us would feel commandeering your car into the city.
Let’s see how this plays out when we revisit this in the fall.
Just a quick update on what I said above: I visited High Street Place again this weekend and it was, to my relief, much busier than I’ve ever seen it. Around 7:30 on Saturday night, maybe 150 people there. Still plenty of empty tables, however, and it was way too easy to grab a couple of seats at the bar at Bubble Bath. We enjoyed a flight of sparkling wines ($30 for three 3oz pours) and I eyed the Tenderoni’s pizza, which I’ve been meaning to sample…but alas, we had dinner plans elsewhere. Pizza next time for sure.
Apology for being MIA. We’re just shaking off our jet lag after 3 weeks in Norway (just got back on Labor Day). We’ve had a lot going on since we’ve been back (1st days of 5th grade; catching up on work; checking in on the ‘rents in RI this past weekend; this weekend, the 3 of us are seeing Supergrass at HOB and Passengers at the ART). Oh, and I had a long overdue medical procedure yesterday, which put me out of commission all day.
Realistically, due to work timelines, I won’t be free until at least late September/early October, so please feel free to proceed with a get-together without me. @kumquat’s stellar review of Darling definitely caught my eye, perhaps for a smaller group (assuming it isn’t amenable to larger groups?).
Didn’t mean to make this sound like a litany of excuses, but I knew fall would be busy. I hope to meet up soon. I want my onion pin!
Having run a couple of professional organizations over the years, I’ve had the distinct pleasure of organizing dozens of events. Pro tip: There’s absolutely no way to make everyone happy. So don’t make a poll, don’t ask for opinions. This will in my experience just go back and forth forever. Someone needs to just step up and take ownership: This is the time, this is the place. Be there, or not. (And now that I’ve laid down that very hard line, I’m stepping back and absolutely not doing that myself … my event planning days are behind me )
