Any BostOnions interested in a get-together?

One of the things I have been looking forward to is the stories behind the screen names. Sorry to miss @Parsnipity @fooddabbler !

Folks, I’m going to postpone this. Not only does the weather look less than ideal early this week, I’ve been informed that we may be heading to Newport on Friday to hang out with friends (which means leaving town by 1 pm to avoid traffic).

Sorry about this. We can try again next week or early September (I’ll be out-of-town mid-August until Labor Day).

Roger that.
Enjoy Newport. We also are away mid-August until Labor Day.

Thanks for understanding. I also think the inaugural HO-down needs an N > 3.

May I suggest slightly later times in the evening? Lunch or 5 p.m. puts a pretty hard limit on the crowd, to people who happen to work right near there and/or can unplug whenever. I suspect I’m not the only one with a somewhat more restrictive schedule during the week. 6:00 or 6:30 in the evening would in my mind be a bit more realistic. Just a suggestion! This is your thing and I’m certainly not trying to step on it - and I would definitely like to be able to join in

Sorry to be MIA and not pitching into the discussion. I expect we’re into that magical time of summer when there’s a lot going on with people’s vacations, long weekends, and family events—myself included.

I’d be interested in a meetup though. Maybe we try after Labor Day?

I’ll second the notion that what might be logistically easier is to plan a venue and date and time and then set a minimum of 4 people, for a reservation, and a max of X. It may be more realistic to do multiple small groups rather hope for 1 large group. If there are certain places that cater to that better (like dim sum), then that option can be added. Folks who can make it that date/time/venue can RSVP and confirm.

If this format works, maybe different people can also step up and plan for a meal at one of the spots they recommend or want to hit up, and so the burden doesn’t all fall on one or two kind HOers. And if certain restaurant prove popular, than more folks can step in and grab a table for more seats or we can also revisit certain places.

Is there any affordable parking though?

I clicked Digga’s link and came up with this. Scroll down to see parking info.

When I checked it the $5 discount gets you to $41 for two hours. A short walk from South Station, so I would probably take the T.

Not much of a discount!!

As suggested earlier, we can have multiple mini-meets to include as many Onions as possible. This is definitely not my cruise…love to have many cruise directors!

Let’s re-group in September. I have Covid. Feeling pretty lousy. :expressionless: :mask:

Regrouping sounds good. Covid sounds not good. :pensive: Please take excellent care of yourself.

Thanks for the well wishes. Feeling a bit better this morning after ~10 hours of sleep. I’m just glad I didn’t meet up with any Onions this week and get them sick (thankfully, the guys are negative).

If anyone gets a sore throat that feels like razor blades, that is apparently how the latest strain is presenting. It did for me.

I’m glad you are feeling better, and that the guys are negative! They can take care of you, I hope!

Curious if that showed any evening hours rates. Many of the parking garages/lots in the downtown area used to drop dramatically if you parked 6pm or later. Workers typically had a lower rate if they exited by 6pm.

EDIT: Just did some digging, and while High St doesn’t seem to offer much of a discount for parking in the building, nearby office buildings with garages seem to offer occasional bargains. For example, parking at 1 International place - which is about 2-3 blocks away looks like it could run from 10-15 dollars for parking in the evening. Caveat: I don’t have a car, so I don’t know how often garages and lots vary prices these days due to events or days of the week (outside weekend/workday). But yes, T is also a great option and very walkable for High St.

I’m just seeing this thread. I would love to participate but would surely need a ride, given my advancing physical decrepitude. I live on the Wilmington/Tewksbury side of Billerica, and can drive to meet someone for the main part of the drive. But I use a walker, and can’t walk more than 100ft without sitting down, due to arthritis and chronic venous insufficiency (Trump’s got a VERY mild case in comparison). I can’t get into a vehicle with a high ground clearance, but am fine with someone else driving my Subaru Impreza (same chassis platform as Crosstrek) into the city. They could let me out at the restaurant entrance, then go park.

I am available any day/date/time.
