The first limoncello I ever tasted smelled and tasted like cleaning fluid. And that was a commercially made bottle, no less!
I think it may be trickier than it seems to formulate an agreeable limoncello.
Probably much easier on the Almalfi Coast of Italy, where the variety of lemon preferred is larger and much less sour than anything I have ever seen here in the States. Someone gave us one of those lemons to taste when we visited. Delicious to peel and eat like an orange or other citrus you’d eat as a snack.
We can’t come close to getting that type of lemon, so we just buy limoncello instead.
