Abbaee is a hidden-away little spot that somehow has managed to be found. It filled up quickly for an early Saturday dinner. The inside is also a lot nicer than you’d think from its business park surroundings.
We ordered three dishes:
Kimchi Jjim, served in a large braising pan, is stewed kimchi and a lot of very tender pork shoulder. Variation on a theme, to be sure, but I have not seen this before. The pork was delicious, and it surprised us just how much pork was involved.
And just in case that wasn’t enough pork, we also got Bo Ssam, pork slices served with leaves for wrapping. You had the option of adding slices of garlic, fresh hot peppers, a salty sauce of tiny fermented shrimp, daikon in a red pepper paste, and tofu. The pork here is roasted, not boiled.
A leek pancake with unannounced squid, ordered extra cripsy, had very satisfying crispiness. The squid is more about the texture of rubber bullets than flavor, so next time I’d just do without the squid.
They have a bunch of intriguing menu items I’d like to try, so there wll be a next time.
