Quoth Julia Child, who would have turned 106 today. I heard this one on the radio - it was new to me.
Someone posted it on facebook yesterday - I had not heard it before either but I love it!
So when they serve cake and cookies at an AA meeting I can say I’m going to a party!!!
Allow me to use my SHSAT tutoring skills to weigh in here and note that a conditional statement (If A, then B) is logically equivalent to its contrapositive (If not B, then not A).
Conditional statement: If A (the party has no cake), then B (it is a meeting).
Contrapositive: If not B (it is not a meeting), then not A (the party has cake).
Your scenario - If there is cake, then it is not a meeting - doesn’t work, 'cause that would be “If not A, then not B.”
I’ll see myself out.
Well that seems to explain why I’ve never liked AA.
Also disregard the famous Julia quote, " Everything in moderation, including moderation".
Or, “Life is short, eat dessert first”!
