just did it, things blinked, count increased.
likes and responses are not showing up in notifications.
STILL getting the 429 error for all kinds of random actions here.
@hungryonion is there a remedy to this?
the system is all messed up.
since a “nice post” of Jul 15, 2024, I have earned six “monthly 20%” badges.
they’ve all been granted in the last 19 hours . . .

I really don’t care about badges, but getting the 429 pop-up for trying to move around the site or forking posts, etc. is pretty annoying.
… the fork/knife generates a “like” which is part of the badging/notification system…
I guess so (?), but as I said in my previous comments, I don’t care about badges or likes or what have you.
I care about being able to navigate this site like I used to, and this is a new error I’ve been encountering for at least a week. Something must be up, no?

I never had a chance to deploy the 429 rate limiting configuration changes scheduled for a few weeks ago. I was off for the last few weeks. Should be able to deploy them this week.

I do want to emphasize that we have an IT department of one here. issues reported are looked into and addressed if its specific to our site and deployment. If its an issue related to the software, there is no remedy. We are not hiring developers to fix the software code for the forum software.
Software and configuration updates are deployed late at night to minimize the impact of down time. That means the IT department of one has to stay up very late for that so it usually has to wait for the weekend to avoid unplanned issues/ extended outage’s impact on the work schedule the following day. Hence, it really depends on scheduling. Sometimes, missing one window to update means it will have to wait for the next week, etc.
Hence, this is an inaccurate characterization of what’s happening here.

Let me ask you- do you
- like more than 100 posts in a day?
- 150 personal messages in a day?
- create more than 3 flags in a day?
if you think you do, you might just be hitting the configured rate limits.
badging and likes are totally separate issues. let’s not conflate the two. the badging notification happens when users are somewhere between the two badging tiers and thus the system keeps moving the users between the two tiers and notifying them each time.

I got a 429 error yesterday when I was trying to reply to a post. I closed the reply and refreshed the page. Then my post “took.”
