This is a great article… sometimes it’s easy to forget that 2002 wasn’t just 5 years ago.

I moved to the US in 2001, so I very much enjoyed the nostalgia

Back when the infamous DB burger with foie gras rang in at a mere $27, which seems almost standard at some burger places — sans foie!

Also, one of my most memorable meals was at wd-50 in 2009 after the housing bubble had burst, and wine bottles were 50% off…

Lo and behold, our beloved Chowhound is mentioned in 2006 (incidentally the year I discovered it).

Really, an interesting look back

Salt Bae - one of the stupidest things ever - and shows how gullible some people are. I guess there are still several of his other restaurants open.

I went to WD-50 in 2005 or 2006 with an eGullet comrade visiting from Seattle. I still have the menu, and I see I had the fried mayonnaise. I remember it also as being the place where I first had rooibos tea.

I had the opposite reaction. 2019 seems like 20 years ago to me.

Rooibos is a popular one in Japanese convenience stores.
