21G Dumpling

I am ridiculously tardy in reporting on our spring stay in Paris this year. Hopefully I will correct that soon.

As an appetizer, if you will, for anyone craving Chinese dumplings in Paris, I found my must-go spot.

21G Dumpling in the 11e, not too far from Virtus, has absolutely excellent pork XLB. These are great by West Coast U.S. standards; imo they compare favorably to the XLB I’ve had at Din Tae Fung.

Also worth trying the shrimp wontons in (too mild, but this is France) chili oil. The oil is worth having to dunk the XLB in, so my recommendation is multiple orders of XLB and one order of the wontons.

The rest of what I sampled was mediocre at best, and I would not recommend, but imo it’s well worth a detour for those fantastic XLB. My daughter and I actually went back a second time they were so good.

Not sure how this place got on my list; may well have been naf’s 6 year old report on it. If so, many thank yous, naf!

Whenever I am jonesing for Chinese dumplings in Paris (has happened more than once!) I go to Raviolis Nord-Est on Rue St. Denis. It’s a very basic place, but I like the dumplings I’ve had there.

Thanks for your report, I haven’t been there for a while, good to know that their dumplings are still excellent.

For xiao long bao in Paris, Autour du Yangtse, rue du Helder, is also very good.
These wonton also look very much like Eastern Chinese dumplings (thick white skins, not much filling); for the Cantonese version, try Tricotin, Fleurs de Mai or Hao Hao, all on avenue de Choisy.
