yea ~ TJ’s sliced seedy multi-grain bread. Basically a pretty good rye bread with lots of seeds on the crust. The bread has the taste & consistency of rye bread and the crust can be crisped nicely by either toasting or warming in an oven. I thought it was better than most rye breads I can find. Not sure if its nationwide or regional as its labelled as artisan-style bread but its available in the NY area.
That’s a pretty great price.
YEA for their version of the Dubai chocolate bar – it’s the best I have sampled yet (including the ones from Dubai) – good dark chocolate with a not-too-thick and not-too-sweet layer of the pistachio and kataifi filling.
I wasn’t expecting to like it at all (I bought it for the kids), but we’ve been enjoying it a square at a time. (Every other version I have partaken of, people have tried to palm off onto each other after a tiny bite
)
I’ve been ignoring the hype on Dubai chocolate bars, but maybe I’ll give this a shot this weekend on my weekly shop.
I don’t care for the general concept or the hype, but this won’t break the bank if you don’t like it.
Yes, please. Thanks for the heads up!
I agree, it’s very good. I believe it’s Patislove rebranded for TJ’s (which I posted about in the Dubai chocolate thread.)
Interesting if they have a TJ’s-labeled bar now; at holiday time they were selling Patislove.
Anyone get TJ’s Italian sparkling water? Seems the same as San Pellegrino for fifty cents less. I say YAY, and the screw on top holds the carbonation better…where as SP doesn’t.
I’ll have to check it out, as I love of SP.
I actually love Gerolsteiner even more, but won’t fork over $37.99 when I can get it for half of that in Berlin.
Yay to the Sour Strawberry Candy Belts. I don’t think these are new, but I’ve only had them a few days ago. Nice balance of sweet and tart and with good chew. Doesn’t stick to your teeth at the end. The only downside is the impact to my already sensitive teeth.
Trader Joe’s had silken tofu today, and I approve of this. Will review once I get some soondubu together!
Funny you’d say that! I picked some up last time for either my next mapo, or this recipe:
I usually buy mine at the Asian market. Not sure abot the price difference…
I usually buy mine at the tofu store, but it is snowing, and I don’t feel like walking to the tofu store!
It’s branded Patislove, you’re right — they didn’t rebrand it for TJs.
A tofu store! My, you city folk be fancay!
Enjoy the purtty snow.
Semi-YAY for TJ’s Sliced Porridge Bread. Supposedly a “rustic sourdough with honey and oats”. The checkout clerk said it was brand new and she loved it.
I got home this afternoon and took the heel and lightly buttered it. A slight sweetness from the honey, and a nice chew from the oats. But I got zero flavah-flav of any hint of sour from the “sourdough”. So that’s why it only gets a semi-Yay.
I’ll try it lightly toasted tomorrow for breakfast. But I think it’ll be a good sandwich bread.
I just tried both the Dubai chocolate and pistachio paste. I’m going to go with semi-YEA for the Dubai and MEH for the pistachio paste:
Dubai chocolate has a really nice filling, one of the best I’ve tried from a commercial version. Great flavor. But at least for my bar the outer chocolate was not properly tempered and felt kind of soft. I want some snap there. I think on balance I prefer the Lindt version.
Pistachio paste, somewhat deep pistachio flavor but a bit “muddy” both in color and flavor. VERY sweet compared to the better Italian brands I’ve had. I did a side by side with the Costco stuff (which I reviewed earlier, in that thread) and although the TJ’s one is slightly more flavorful I think the Costco wins as its taste is just a touch nicer, while less intense. (Both are equally over-sweet and I won’t be dipping a spoon in either jar as a snack.)
I thought the sliced seedy multi-grain bread was very good. It’s more like a seedy rye bread. Looks like similar packaging so it may be the same bakery.
AgreE on the lack of sourdough taste….. but otherwise a pretty darn good bread. At first the texture threw me off but I’ve now accepted this bread for whatever it IS, not what I expected it to be.
