CHEESECAKE BREAD ‘Khaliat al nahl,’ or honeycomb bread, resembles a pull-apart loaf with loose concentric circles of dough formed in the round. Inside, there’s a cream cheese sweetened on the outside by bold drizzles of honey. (Photo by J.S. Edalatpour)

Tokyo Central buffet in Emeryvile with 27 photos and an 80-second video. I suggest getting there before 11 am to avoid some of the crowds. As soon as a popular item is rolled out from the kitchen on a cart, many of the servings are taken before even being shelved. I still have not been able to snag one of the Japanese egg salad sandwiches with kewpie mayo and milk bread.
The charge is $11.99/lb. and there many other protein dishes such as, chicken katsu, pork ribs, and salmon belly just on the other side as are several soups ($2.99 for what looks like 8 oz. or so).

Madeline Wells calls Tokyo Central “… sensory overload.”
Excerpt:
The biggest crowds were in the prepared foods section. Shoppers gawked at the bowls of prepared ramen, which promised “no need to add water, just warm it up and ready!” There was soba, onigiri, katsu curry, yakisoba, chicken teriyaki don and many other bento options. The egg salad sandwiches, which were made by San Francisco’s Andersen Bakery, looked straight out of a konbini.

A friend visited Tokyo Central a couple of days ago. At 2PM, the prepared foods were all gone. She was advised to come earlier.
I was very sad to see that. We went on a neon walking tour of the Marina around New Year’s and that Mel’s was one of the stops.
In a few months, the hype will have died down.
