A couple of weeks ago at my Daughter’s year-end theatre department celebration at her school, I’m talking with one of the other parents about Summer plans, as is the convention of parents with children of a certain age at these get-togethers. Usually the topics stray towards travel, what kind of programs their children will be enrolled in during Summer, etc. etc. So this parent, when I asked her, she replied “Oh, I’m going to Chicago in a couple of weeks. I was nominated for a James Beard award for a book I wrote.” I saw a couple of days ago that she won (Food policy category) . I cannot wait to hear how the food was at the awards ceremony. Makes my Summer plans seems pretty, pretty banal in comparison.

I was happy to hear that Rose Levy B. received an achievement award, and that Nicola Lamb had won an award for “Sift.” The other media winners have given me a nice list of things to check out.
