Dinner at Gold Garden Shanghainese Restaurant, TST
After indulging in Cantonese cuisine, almost every meal, for the past week. Tonight’s invitation by my sister-in-law to dine at an authentic Shanghainese restaurant with her family was a most welcoming revelation and change.
The sumptuous meal was a full-blown, multi-course, near banquet style affair featuring some exceptional, delectable and most of all, ‘authentic and traditional‘ Shanghainese dishes. Almost all my favorite cravings, including, ‘ Smoked ‘molten-lava yolk’ Duck Eggs ‘, ‘ Oil Poached River shrimp ‘, Stir fried and braised shredded Eel and yellowing chives in brown sauce and sizzling oil ‘, ‘ Yin Doak Seen Soup casserole ‘ , ‘ Silken Tofu with Shanghainese Hairy crab ragu and roe ‘ plus, of course, some authentic water fried buns, XLB and pot stickers were included!..The pan fried XLB a first for a few of us. Other additions include a dense and complex braised Chinese Hunan Ham with Taiwanese Cabbage and a well timed, stir-fried crab meat with egg white.
What an enjoyable, sensational and delightful meal! Been waiting a looong time for a Shanghainese meal of this calibre!
Once again, after dinner, I bought myself some French pastries to enjoy in the comfort of my AC hotel room
