2020 Veggie Gardens!

Happy for you it cooled down, but happy for us we’re going to get hot for a couple days. Don’t feel like it’s summer unless there’s been heat. In fact I’ve been cold most of the summer. Really chilly in mornings and evenings, so that you need a sweater.

We’re only supposed to get to 93, so tomatoes should be fine @naf.

Another visitor; this one welcome!

I see some thrip and/or spider mite damage, but does anyone know what the white eggs and the threads might be?

Love those melons…

A few weeks ago I was on a walk alongside a bike path adjacent to a horse farm (yeah there’s a description), and noticed squash-like leaves trailing onto the paved path for quite a stretch.

Upon closer examination, there were flowers that I could see were squash-like, with adorable little golf-ball size melons at the base - like cucumber or zucchini flowers SO CUTE! And then I spotted some baby melons too.

Haven’t been back, sadly.

“My” serrano plants, after fruiting vigorously for a while, are looking very unhappy now…

Any suggestions? I thought I’d aerate the soil a bit, fertilize with some bloom stuff, and water deeply again.

You’ve probably shared this before, but a picture and a description of your conditions would probably help.

Will post, it’s recent, they were doing fine until a few weeks ago.

No, but I’d cut that leaf off right away, unless @bogman identifies them as preying mantis eggs…

Well thank you @Saregama! We needed more heat this summer but are expecting a little heat wave the next few days -93 possibly tomorrow. Will make it the first day into the 90’s! The tomatoes should like it.

Will say I’m happy to see you posting again!

And those little melons you saw on your walk, just way cute, as melons are. Probably tasty too.

Sad Serrano:

Do you think they might be ready for harvest? I really don’t know what may be wrong. @shrinkrap or @bogman might chime in @Saregama.

What are you using as your potting mix? It looks sort of tight a dry. Is it hot and dry where you are? The black km pots get really hot here, a d dry out quickly.

Good idea! Look what I saw on the other side;

Those target looking things look familiar, and the word mycelia comes to mind.

Thanks @Lambchop - I’ve had a good harvest over the past couple of months, actually. Then they suddenly got bare. No change really.

Organic bagged, like everything. It did look compacted, so I aerated it today. Will add some fertilizer tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks… as you probably saw me say elsewhere, I just wasn’t able - mentally. Taking pics, thinking about posts, but just couldn’t get there. But here I am  Nice to see you again too!

Yes @Saregama; welcome back!

Bagged potting mix? I don’t see any perlite. Have you been feeding them? An early supplement in a pot might not be enough anymore. Also, are you still in San Diego? If so, aren’t you having a heat wave? We are. A d even though my early season was amazing, but the dry heat is starting to catch up with me. I usually have to double my watering in August.

Yep, finally hot, but that’s 80s vs the 60s/70s its been :joy:

Thank you

I DREAM of 80’s.

Here it feels HOT - because it’s been so cold. Tomatoes don’t like it - they stay green for ages. Now finally, they should perk up!
