12 Must-Try Indian Restaurants in Philly

Any of my Philly peeps have any input on these? I’ve lamented before the dearth of good Indian food in my hometown, so I’m hopeful to explore a few of these.

Amma seems to be on many a list of faves, and at first I was a lil stumped by the inclusion of Little Sicily Pizza II, but reading up on it more it actually sounds intriguing:

" What does a pizza joint named after an Italian island have to do with Indian food? Well, friend, we are SO glad you asked. Located in a parking lot behind a Wawa in Pennsport, Little Sicily II dishes up your standard 16-inch pies in all the normal variations. But it’s also a secret laboratory of Italian-Indian-Philadelphian fusion, serving in-the-know diners (welcome, new initiate) Indian-style pizza and cheesesteaks on its “Spicy Food Menu.” Differing from your Pat’s and Geno’s, this takeout spot’s cheesesteaks (beef or chicken) and pizzas (chicken or paneer) have a distinct Indian flavor profile and a kick (ranging from mild to extra spicy) thanks to an Indian spice blend (similar to the one used for tikka masala) and herbs."

Has anyone been? What about the other places on the list?

I am not that knowledgeable on Indian cuisine but I really enjoyed Amma - although I went solo and wished I was with others so I could try more. I had no idea about Little Sicily and I am a half mile away! I’ll have to try it soon. Ekta and Nirvana I have had take out from and it was solid - again, I am only judging on an “I liked it” scale vs “how good is this Indian food”

I am not particularly knowledgable about many different cuisines, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy them… or not enjoy them.

It’s not a science, after all, just personal preferences. Maybe Amma would be a good place for a HO group dinner in the fall?

Grabbed a Chana Kati roll from Masala kitchen to eat outside on this beautiful day. It’s good and inexpensive! Definitely a good quick lunch spot :yum:
