NYT Food part is becoming worse and worse - missing “trends” just by a few years (or sometimes a decade) and just desperately trying to fill their pages with some “information”
Not so hidden anymore, are they 
Like the unspoiled and uncrowded island close to Bali they wrote about the other day, soon to be crowded and spoiled.
No one goes there anymore, it’s too crowded 
Never mind. Maybe I shouldn’t try to figure out where it is.

I read the article and didn’t see the author making the claim that this was a new trend — especially since speakeasy bars have been around for about a century.
Their ongoing popularity seems to indicate that they’re still going strong.
Maybe you should altogether avoid reading these if you already know that you’ll find them annoying and unhelpful. Unless hate-reading stuff is your thing
