We have friends in Leicester but they don’t seem to know the city that well at all. Hmmm. We’re keen on places that are homey and that serve local stuff so we can enjoy the culture. We’ve been to Leicester before a couple of times and enjoyed a lovely Indian buffet (Chef and Spice) which we may go back to. We’re also tying this to Diwali (Oct 28-30), and the last time we were there for Diwali, we found everywhere on the Curry Mile serving mediocre vegetarian buffets at special Diwali prices. Nothing looked good. We are staying at the Novotel, but the breakfasts these days aren’t what they used to be. Where for breakfast? Is there a great market we should know about so we could perhaps buy some local things to eat in the hotel room? What’s Leicester famous for?

Plans changed but we had been intending a trip to Loughborough and the plan was to stop for lunch in Leicester on the way home. Curry advice from a Leicester guy who also contributes to the same Tripadvisor forum as me was that Bobby’s and Kayal would be good bets. He also mentioned the Falcon asian supermarket as good for shopping.
