Which recent food trends make you roll your eyes?

Is this something you’ve encountered? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of it.

Except it’d just be Schlager.

Oh, yeah. Not in restaurants, TBH, but charcoal as the new magic snake oil added to many products.

Some idiot will buy it.

Oh, how about that. Well, I had a friend who almost fell for the colloidal silver thing.

I hate to badger you sir, but it seems like you’re really in need (sic) of the title of “Kneadmeister”, so I will graciously concede it to you without any challenge.

Just re-reading my post @DaBadger, it occurred to me that it might have come across as nasty, and that was not the intent. I was just trying to be a smartass, but didn’t pull it off :pray:t3:

HOT HONEY on everything, everywhere, all the time. Can’t wait for that trend to be done with.

“Farrotto.”

And boy, did this thread get contentious :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

LOL!!! The gold prevents hangover.

Not a current trend, but two I giggled about were foams and deconstructed dishes. Most are much worse than the constructed form. But, it takes genius to deconstruct. Right

McCormick’s has a new salt caramel spice, being marketed a lot by our big 3 grocery store chains. That’s something I wouldn’t try unless it was free.

But a free awful tasting spice would ruin what you put it on, wouldn’t it?

I saw hot honey on a menu in Belfast yesterday!

OMG! I don’t recall seeing the pest that is hot honey in Germany yet, but of course we’re even further removed from the epicenter of all culinary discoveries, and so will likely experience the trend at least 10 years later

Is Germany not very keen on spicy food trends? I have relatives in Switzerland and the Swiss-German contingent are distinctly lacking in enthusiasm for anything hot/spicy.

My recent UK sightings of hot honey were:

  • as one of the toppings on a pizza in Southampton airport (why put honey on a pizza?).
  • ‘hot honey halloumi’ as a flatbread topping at a restaurant in Belfast.

German cuisine overall isn’t known to be particularly spicy-as-in-hot, unlike other cuisines more known for their occasionally fiery dishes — Thai or Mexican come to mind, so hopefully we’ll be spared

I saw a hot honey marinara sauce today at Target. Just…why?

Just to clarify, we’re talking honey with chiles, not heated honey?
Or maybe both.
Hmmm
