Where we ended up eating in Paris, March23

It’s wild, reading the second report on this thread caused me to remember–in a vague, vague way–that I have dined at one of the Pierre Sang restaurants. It must have been years ago, as I can’t remember the last time I was in Paris. I do remember that I had a very good meal, though I think the night I was there there was one “miss” on the menu. [I guess I need to start writing this stuff down…]

Thanks to both of you for your excellent, helpful reports.

My biggest problem this morning is which thread to tack on my impressions of Dilia, where my wife and I had dinner last night. I’ll go with here, as ninkat provided photos of all the things that were not on the tasting menu last night  Let me start by saying that the entire staff were upbeat & friendly and loved engaging with each table, but especially ours and the table next to ours, since they were Italian visiting their grown son who lives here now, and Ginny speaks Italian. Here’s the kicker: I mentioned that we have American friends who’ve come several times and the waiter’s response was “Carol!!”. I then mentioned that there was another friend from NY who loved the place and (true), he said “with a friend, yes”. Then he said “Hungry Onion!”. And I showed him Nina’s pictures. Not a bad start.
We reserved earlier during the day & took the 7:30pm slot so that we wouldn’t be out too late. Then, when we got there, we chose the 7 course meal, which meant we’d be out late (for us, anyway). It was a 3 hour meal, with the chef and 2 waiters all, at different times, hanging out with us and the table next to us, talking about the food, Italy (the other table was from Pisa, the chef from Lucca, they all loved Sicily…) & how they’re trying to create food reminiscent of Italy without being an “Italian” restaurant in Paris. They really, in our opinion, succeeded.
We had a great meal. We highly recommend this place and might well return during our stay for another go at it. The dishes served were all very tasty, albeit not as refined as in places like Perception. But, they’re not going for refined. From mackerel as one of the amuse bouche to smallish pea ravioli (5 of them/plate) that were perfect to the eel (one of my chosen add ons) to the lobster meat w/asparagus spears (one of Ginny’s chosen add ons) the al dente spaghettini w/lemon (both of our other add ons), all were dishes worth ordering. I’m sure it’ll all be different, so there’s no need for details of each dish served (not that I can remember them anyway). Just remembered: the starting amuse bouche looked like small breadsticks, but were panelle (chick pea fritters) in stick form. With a little ham. And, I should add that we chose to drink a bottle of Pecorino throughout dinner. It stood up even to the lamb course.
Three hours later, stuffed to the gills, we wobbled out to our Uber. But not before spending time over lemoncello (not very sweet, made in house, proud of using real lemons), grappa (Ginny drinks it - I’m not man enough to keep up with her) & coffee, with everyone’s favorite waiter insisting that we do a group dinner with Carol and Nina in the near future. 250euros all in. Another real winner. Thanks sfcarol & ninkat

Glad you enjoyed it! I am back there next week as well with my “kids.” Fréderico is a charming, welcoming, knowledgeable guy. I have been there three times now and the menus have been very different. BTW, @Carmenere was with me the the first time I went and also liked it very much! Added benefit is that it is open Sunday and Monday evenings. Now we just all need to get back there at the same time!

How sweet of Fréderico to remember our visits! And I do recall how intrigued he was with the Hungry Onion site when I showed it to him on my phone.

With the many years I spent studying Italian I should speak the language better, but alas I don’t. So, I’m envious of Ginny’s ability to engage the staff that way. But we always have heaps of laughs and a great meal. The Sunday and Monday openings that ninkat mentions are a real plus and we often head over there for Sunday lunch. So glad you went Steve!

Great report!! Glad to hear you got a chance to eat at a few ’ identical ’ establishments which I booked but have to cancel due to food poisoning from eating tainted oysters in Barcelona a few days before! Sigh!
