I donât really want to have a debate here.
Okay. See you in the morning!
We got tons of ice and snow descending on us here. Should be fun. Weâre always stocked up, so no worries unless we get a 3+ day power outage. Then Iâll have to start buying the dry ice to pack into the freezerâŚ
We have had a big dump here, too. Yesterday was a snow day, with grammar schools, high schools, the local community college, and the local university closed. Around 3 feet of snow, taller than my dogs.
Glad youâre stocked up!
Yowza, 3 feet! Thatâd kill us.
Weâre slated to get freezing rain (about 1 inch total), then 3-5 inches of snow on that, then another 1 inch of freezing rain.
If we do get whatâs predicted, because weâre in the Southeastern US, this will totally paralyze the area.
This is because we have little in the way of salt reserves or snow plows. Itâs supposed to start tomo at 7 a.m. and weâre supposed to have high humidity plus mostly temps around freezing, so it wonât sublime off except in high sun-exposed areas.
My 3rd daughter is north of us, going to school in the mountains of North Carolina. Theyâre expecting a similar combo (freezing rain, then snow - about 12 inches, then more freezing rain atop) but despite their total being about 3X what weâll get, theyâll have the roads cleared in no time.
[Edit - because they know how to deal with it, whereas here, we do not.]
Sunny and 74 f here.
This was the snow in front of a parking meter yesterday. Those are my foot steps. The snow settled to around 1.5 feet deep by the time I went out.
Do Canadians typically use feet and inches for snow depths?
Canada switched over to metric 50 years ago, but Canadians tend to still use pounds when talking about personal weight, and feet when talking about height and snow. Kg is a little more common when it comes to ordering meat or cheese at a deli counter in Canada now.
Probably Gen X and older use Imperial more than Millenials and under. Most recipes are in Imperial, with Metric conversions in parentheses.
I have one set of measuring spoons in 5 ml, 15 ml and 25 ml measurements, but theyâre not useful when 95 percent of my recipes are in Imperial measurements
I switch to Fahrenheit for weather and other Imperial measurements when chatting with Americans, but I usually keep my Canadian spelling.
So thatâs what happened.
Diagrams never lie.
I truly enjoyed this opinion piece about an area I like & know well the San Gabriel Valley in LA County. Thereâs one phrase (IMHO a bit far-fetched) that I would have liked to see not used, but after all, it is an opinion piece and not a news article, therefore so be it.
I chose to post it here rather than in âWhat are you reading?â because from past experience, that thread seems to be about books (sorry if Iâm wrong about that). Moderators, feel free to move it there if you think itâs inappropriate in this thread.
I sincerely hope that this opinion piece doesnât create any controversy here.
A paywalled version:
and an open access version:
It doesnât specify books in the title, and I have posted links to interesting articles, so I donât see why not?
When Iâve posted articles there in the past Iâve found little interaction there. Should I post it there as well as an experiment for the future to see which gains more, as the youngins say âtractionâ?
Itâs impossible to predict what post, comment, or thread will prompt an interaction or not.
I generally post to share with others what I personally have found interesting or engaging, and donât expect much more than that. If a discussion ensues â great. If not⌠NBD
You worry too much. Weâll read your musings wherever you put them.
I think you would get interest in the LA region media sub forum too.
Reminded it includes Vegas! NorCal media has interest too.
