I am not in your league (I usually stop at “genius”), but I do have one of these!
I like wordle and connections; rarely do the SB although I don’t know why. Today I got connections without error, but it wasn’t because I knew the connection between the purple words, although I stared at them for like 5 minutes trying to figure it out. I’m just not versed in that genre (see “rarely to the SB”). It was just because I got to them last/by default.
I like the mini crossword and strands just for fun, although often times the theme on strands is quite poorly related to the actual puzzle.
Connections is the one I’m most fanatical about. I try for a reverse every day and have found the copilot app useful in this regard. pretty protective of my streak.
My mom and I used to play anagrams (in German, of course), so it’s right up my alley.
Connections can be stupid far-fetched sometimes… looking at you, purple
Sly was cooler than cool.
I just listened to Family Affair on repeat on my walk today, not knowing he died.
Complicated man, a complicated life, wonderful music.
ETA: According to B and my own self-reporting, I have something of a sixth sense. For example, people who I haven’t heard from in years come out of the woodworks immediately after I have a dream about them or something bad happens to them. So, you better hope I don’t dream about you.
I’m part of a WhatsApp group called Fellowship of the Bee!
I know of some UK based players who get frustrated because many words common in the UK are not included and there is a very definite ‘American English’ flavour to it. I don’t mind. Bring on the ratatats, doodads and arroyos!
I’ve learned a few new terms, like “tarantat” (?) for the sound of a trumpet (really?).
There are probably several groups bitching about the randomness of the SB’s rules
I love Connections and am delighted to have that every day. (I used to buy the Radio Times not only for listings but also for its games— one of which was Only Connect (which is the forerunner to Connections and is/was also a game show hosted by Victoria Coren Mitchell.)
I have a serious puzzle problem.
I’m just more annoyed at the inconsistency. I believe it accepts tonne and lorry IIRC.
I’m forever going for the reverse rainbow. The green and yellow usually trip me up for ease and sometimes blue although typically blue and purple are very distinct types of category so easier to suss out on that basis.
It’s a hobby, not a ‘problem’
When silly purple and blue aren’t evident initially & I feel extra ambitious, I’ve been known to copy the words into a doc to futz around with them there before my first guesses online.
Today connections green-yellow-purple were immediately apparent, but what-would-be-blue by default I stared at for a full 30 seconds without getting the connection, so I just submitted it. I’m not sure I agree with their descriptor’s time frame
Summary
and think some spanned a lot longer timing, and one in particular was seldom used in the full form they provided.
(Trying to be vague re spoiler)
I was at the specialist vet yesterday with Z, and the woman next to me was doing Spelling Bee on her iPhone. We had a chat. The complaints and frustration are universal.
As long as one’s enjoyment outweighs the frustration
As with most things in life …
Absolutely! And the older you get, the less tolerance you have for the frustrating parts.
