This won’t be popular but when I see people who say they can’t afford essentials like food/shelter but they have tattoo(s) I wonder if they are simply making bad life choices.
Are you trying to stir the pot?
I’ve seen this particular hot take far too often: criticism of poor people for daring to spend money on anything deemed “inessential” by the scolding class. Consider for five seconds that the tattoos might pre-date the financial hardship.
You said it!
I haven’t eaten in 24 hours and I can count on one h c the number of times in my life that’s been true.
I really hope you recover sooner rather than later.
From my brother in LA
News is reporting fire and evacuations in Pacific Palisades.

My friend had a little too good a view of that fire.
Oh no .
Terrible.
Oh my. Not good.
My house sits on the edge of the upper Sacramento river canyon . I sat down years ago with my insurance adjustor . Saying I would like the highest premium coverage . My insurance is over 5 k a year . Cedar siding and deck will burn faster than garlic in hot oil . My to go bag has been ready
Ugh. I just watched the national news. The Santa Ana winds were insane, and only predicted to get even worse overnight. Please please please be careful!
The Pacific Palisades fire is terrifying. Gift link to the NY TImes live feed, with scary photos and videos.
Mandatory evacuations from Santa Monica and Brentwood across the coast to Malibu and up into Topanga Canyon, where I spent many happy years in my 20s and 30s.
Santa Ana is SoCal; pretty sure @John is in NorCal (upper Sacramento river canyon) . It still rains here in NorCal in the winter, although our turn will come. I think one story says it hasn’t really rained in SoCal since last May!
Awful
Hoping some HO’s from SoCal will check in.
So familiar of the 1991 Oakland Hills fire, Paradise Fire, Camp Fire, Dixie Fire, and so many more…
Thanks. I have had a piece of toast and a baked potato today so I feel like things are improving!
Just talked to a friend in SM, whose BF lives in PP, and is sheltering in place. She’s very worried and says air quality is horrible. Truly hoping those winds calm down sooner than later, but forecast contradicts that. Stay safe all in Southern California.
