What's on your mind? (2025) - good way to start... even if a bit early... :-)

So beautiful. Poetry is really connecting for me these days in a way I haven’t experienced before. Like a balm for the soul.

Balm is in short supply these days.

I didn’t realize how much of my own misogyny was baked in until Spawn2, probably mostly as a result of their Gender & Women’s Studies, started calling me out on it. At first I was defensive, but after a little while I realized I needed to own it.

It’s difficult to recognize patterns in our own behavior that have almost become second nature due to the culture we are submerged in.

That said, it’s never too late to do better. Self-awareness and recognition are the first step

women-on-women misogyny is the real doozy
in the home, in the family, in the workplace, in society, in politics, everywhere

(“developed” and “underdeveloped” also take on different meanings when you look at which countries have elected women to lead them at some point in their existence and which haven’t)

If you look that up in the dictionary, there’s a picture of Phyllis Schlafly.

Or even a bomb for the soul, sometimes. Hahaha

This was interesting – I had no idea Sri Lanka was the first country in the world to have an elected female leader – way back in 1960. Or that New Zealand was the first to extend the right to vote – in 1893!

Women leaders in South Asia have benefited from nepotism, so there’s a silver lining to nepotism after all :joy:
Indira Gandhi (India) - daughter of a PM
Benazir Bhutto (Pakistan) - daughter of a PM
Khaleda Zia (PM) (Bangladesh) - widow of a President
Sheikh Hasina (Bangladesh) - daughter of a President
Sirimavo Bandaranaike (Sri Lanka) - widow of a PM
Chandrika Kumaratunga (Sri Lanka) - daughter of not ONE but TWO PMs

The only one NOT a product of a political family is the current PM of Sri Lanka, Harini Amarasuriya (who also happens to be single).

I dunno. With oil carts these days, (or edibles, which I know are not your jam) it’s thankfully no longer necessary to have that Eau de Mort Reconnaissant cloud hanging around you.

I hate it when most people say “I have no idea” , because most of the time, they do.

ETA I just saw a “no eye seeing eye dog” at the park! Beautiful dog, with a partner with eye seeing-eye dog, and their human.

It may depend on the brand, but I had a pretty embarrassing moment the first time I tried a friend’s vape at a Sichuan restaurant where we were regulars. I had no idea that the vapor is not odorless at all, in that several very surprised Chinese students all turned their heads towards our table.

It doesn’t reek or cling to one as much, but it’s def noticeable. Live resin here, or flower. Nothing else works.
