Borowitz’s editorial suggestions for WaPo’s tagline are much more on point.

Some gems in the comments, also.

Pranayam is ancient and well researched for its many benefits.

That said, yoga and pranayam do require knowledge, supervision, and medical clearance even for those who are familiar — my mom has been doing pranayam as part of her daily yoga practice for decades, but when she was in recovery last year from a serious episode, she was instructed not to do some of her usual ones until further notice due to their effects on the heart and blood flow.

It’s interesting you mentioned your heart rate — when I went in for scans last year, they wanted to give me a drug to bring my heart rate down by 10 points for better pics, but I asked for 10 mins with my meditation app instead, which did the job.

I can’t believe I forgot about The Borowitz Report. I used to be a faithful reader, but somehow lost track of it. Pandemic? I dunno. But I always enjoyed his ā€œbiteā€.

That’s very impressive! Any time we can sub in a normal response to (xyz normal intervention) instead of a drug, I call that a big win.

Has anyone heard from our Onion buddy in Shasta? I’m hoping he’s over the crud and not working too hard removing snow. I’d like to see some winter time pizzas of his!

I saw @John liked some posts today in WFD. I was just thinking of him, too!

Terrible fire at a Santa Cruz, CA area at the world’s largest lithium battery plant and storage facility. I fear this is going to be extremely detrimental to the entire area, especially the vital and very sensitive Monterey Bay fisheries. If there’s any HO member who’d like to split this out to or create a new thread about this please feel to do so. I’m sorry, but I’m just not up to doing it.

Many thanks for this newsflash. Elkhorn Slough is maybe 10 miles from my old home. Very important and fragile ecosystem. Am turning on the morning news.

You’re very welcome. The only friend from my approximately 8 years (2008-2016) on Facebook that I’m still in contact with lives in Santa Cruz. I’m not too worried about the actual fire getting to where he lives, but the toxicity of the smoke from a lithium battery fire must be horrendous, so that worries me.

I hope any friends or family you may have in the area where you lived are all safe and out of danger.

Elkhorn, Moss Landing are some 25 miles south of Santa Cruz. Re smoke, I suppose it depends on wind direction.

Actually, some of them are WAY better! My favorites:

Thank you for the details. I’ve only been to Monterey and don’t know the area well at all.

@tcamp has been AWOL for a while now. She’d mentioned her partner’s health issues before, and I’ve been worried about her.

I used to think I wasn’t a yoga person either. And as a person of Indian heritage living in England, the stereotype of Instagram-friendly skinny white ladies teaching and practicing yoga really irked me. But I managed to find a studio which wasn’t annoying and had quite a few other dumpy middle-aged practitioners like myself, and I found the classes which I liked, taught by teachers who are good and not posers. So now I do between 4-9 hours of yoga a week depending on my shift patterns. Many classes will include a good proportion of pranayama (breath work). It has made a big positive difference to my overall health and wellbeing. I tried online classes but I get distracted easily so I prefer to be trapped in a room with a teacher giving instructions and no easy escape route.
