.
We did that a lot in middle and high school. One night my friend and I got about 4 dozen and had them broken down to just the legs and had them on a metal table. One of us (I think it might have been me) got the bright idea to hook up the battery charger. Legs jumping all over the place, just as his Mom stepped out into the garage - and almost fainted from the sight.
As an aside, I’ve checked in several H-Marts in at least two different states, and their computer system has them inventoried as “FLOG Legs”. What I buy at H-Mart doesn’t taste much like US bullfrog, though. Definitely has more fishy notes to it.
He didn’t make the gamey face when consuming. The shallots must have covered the brain’s gameyness. Maybe he used avocado oil, or some other trick of the trade. Dude knows his sht…and brains.
When I was a kid we caught and ate frogs, turtles, crawfish all the time. These days, I never see any frogs big enough to eat.
Gameyness does have its advantages. I’d shoot six pheasants and my kids would play with their heads when removed. Little wrestling matches and that. If you ever shoot a buck, run compressed air up his windpipe and you’ll hear the grunt. As a kid, I always dreamed of doing that with an elk’s windpipe. Would I get the squeal?
The world may never know.
I feel it necessary to point out that the brain eating scene you’re discussing did NOT happen in the ‘Silence of the Lambs’ (the movie OR the book) but rather in the VASTLY inferior ‘Hannibal’ (2001), with Julianne Moore replacing Jodi Foster as Starling, and Ray Liotta as the main course.
That scene, as over the top as it is, is maybe the only part of the film that works as intended. The rest is just eyeroll worthy aping of all the things that made ‘Silence’ decent, and absolutely WRECKING Foster’s version of the character.
If you want to see ‘long pig’ elegantly prepared, I suggest looking up the ‘Hannibal’ TV series, that somehow lasted for three full seasons on NETWORK TV. It is gorgeous and horrifying and Mads Mikkleson makes as terrifying a Lechter as Cox or Hopkins ever did. Possibly more so.
Quite right. Been so long since I’ve seen either. ‘Hannibal’ turned out pretty inferior.
Sweet scene , though. Still, he didn’t have the “gamey” look on his face when consuming. Hann can cook!
