Splendid well structured varietal red from Cataluna.

Beautiful, looks perfectly chilled as well! Bookmarked to see if it can be found in these parts; grocery store or ABC? Amusing to me first time visiting NC - ABC stores are literally everywhere in Hawaii, but are convenience/tourist shops. There are sometimes 2-3 on every block, and in the malls as well.

Absolutely stunning bottle @Barca - how was it?

This one was from a specialty wine shop, sadly going out of business. Our ABC stores only sell liquor and mixers - wine, beer, and fortified wines are from grocery or other shops.

Gotcha, thanks. Was interesting to see the moonshines in the ABC stores; didn’t notice the lack of beer & wines there, but do remember getting those from the grocery stores, now that you mention it.

Broke out one of the nice Pinots to celebrate the start of the long weekend and my bday. This was really nice - lots of plum and blueberry. Very smooth.

Thank you. Cheers :wine_glass:

Last night we had this bottle that one of may partner’s brought back from his trip to Mexico earlier this year. Had no idea what to expect-eat from this, but it was good, really good. Not quite as big or as jammy as a California cab, which for me is a plus. Now I’m excited to do some research into this winery.

I found this 1979 vintage port at Trader Joe’s in the mid 1990s. Back then, they regularly had unexpected deals like this, where you’d try a bottle and then rush back to get more. I think I paid $8.00 a bottle, for six bottles (I have three left). It doesn’t have the bracing freshness it had the last time I tried it, maybe ten years ago. At that time, it smelled deeply of freshly cut apples. Still, lots to enjoy.

It was a challenge to open because of the solid resin cap covering a soft lead capsule. I had to chip it away. Then, when I tried to uncork it, the cork just slid down into the bottle. No problem, the wine was fine.

This 2002 zinfandel was kind of a fluke. Chateau La Paws was a second label for zin specialists Rosenblum Cellars. I got it at the winery, when I was buying grapes for home winemaking. I don’t remember why I bought this one, or why I kept it so long. It was unexpectedly good, for an 18 year old zinfandel, with lots of fruit and no apparent flaws. I think it was $5.00.

I’ve read great things about that wine region. Food & Wine did a cover article in 2018. Really want to go.

I keep hearing that Valle de Guadalupe is producing some really good wines but it’s difficult to find any kind of selection at retail even here (just 85 miles from Mexico).

Does anyone have a favorite recipe for stir-fried chicken with snow peas? It’s WFD… hopefully.

Did you possibly post to this topic by mistake? Stir-fried chicken with snow peas sounds good but 99% of the posts in this topic are about wine. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Uhh yes. Probably explains why I didn’t get any responses
