What have you been watching lately? 2024 Edition

Started season II of The Responder. First season was incredible, and Martin Freeman is such a great actor. Still remember the first time I noticed him as one of the few sane characters in the original (British) The Office.

We enjoyed it more than we thought we might, lead character (whose name escapes me at the moment) was very good.

Morgan. She has a last name as well (it’s spoken in one scene) that isn’t listed in the credits for some reason.

Tonight we watched His Three Daughters, which was filmed in an apartment just down the street from us. I admired it more than I liked it.

We watched it and, at first, found some of it to be overly ‘staged’ with unbelievable premises…… but the tweak at the very end made us decide to wait for episode 2. This was one where we looked at each other and said ”it’s a TV show”, so don’t take it seriously. We’ll see.

Exactly. My tv dance card is pretty full, but I’ll try to make room for this one.

We finished the second season of The Responder. The Brits really have cop shows down.

Holding off on continuing Bad Monkey until a few more epis are made available.

We’ve watched four episodes, and bad fluff. An inferior copy of the late great trashy Revenge. But there’s only two more episodes, so we’ll just get through them and be done with it.

Just finished Rebel Ridge (2024) on Netflix. It’s a high-tech, lower-key First Blood. Ex-military man takes on bullying, small-town cops, with predictable results. It’s too long (2:11) but you get Don Johnson and enough asskicking. Worth a watch.

Somewhat startled to be first to note such a profound and gaping loss:

We watched the Apollo 13 doc yesterday, followed by more episodes of the light n fluffy Nobody Wants This. I originally thought I couldn’t get through the first episode, but it kinda grew on me :woman_shrugging:t3: Still not as vapid as Emily in Paris.

Also finished the last season of Hacks. I thought it did a really good job showing the absolute fucked up-ness of their relationship — Deb’s almost unbearable narcissism, in particular, with short glimpses of how she may have turned out that way, and Ava’s borderline masochistic neediness, although its origin is a little less clear to me. Given the final episode, one can likely count on another season

A mid-C19 pub at the junction of Motcomb Street and Kinnerton Street, not far from Knightsbridge.

Shirley MacLaine vs. Maggie Smith. Downton Abbey.

We watched the first episode of Penguin, the Batman spinoff starring a heavily prosthetics laden Colin Farrell in the title roll. We enjoyed it in a Sopranos set in Gotham kind of way.

We also caught the first few episodes of Agatha All Along, which spun off of Wandavision. Lots of fun and a good ensemble cast.

In A Violent Nature, a Shudder original, was finally available for free. It had been on our list for while, but we cheap — what can I say.

It was… violent. A real slasher movie, gory AF, and with some incredibly tense moments, right up until the somewhat strange end.

Frankly the only one here I can imagine appreciating the originality of many a demise (a yoga chick in particular will stay in my mind for quite a while) is @Lectroid. Have you seen it?

It’s on our list. Probably will get to it next weekend. Thanks for the endorsement (of a sort)!
