Lately, duck.
And for me, especially Peking duck in Hong Kong or Beijing.
Lucky duck. I haven’t even done Peking duck in Toronto in 8 years. I’ve organized 2 Peking duck meet-ups over the years. One for law friends and one for ski friends.
My latest duck was this pappardelle with duck confit at AloBar (York St location)
My current must orders have changed a bit over 2 years.
I’m going through a Croque Monsieur / Madame phase lately.
I’m ordering more vegetarian slices, and less whole pizzas.
I also order every Cardamom Latte I see.
I’m also ordering more sandwiches this year.
I still like a Greek omelette at a greasy spoon.
A good Greek omelette is a hallmark of many a proper diner here in Massachusetts. I always look for one on the menu when visiting a diner that’s new to me.
Another diner selection: hash browns. Not many non-chain places here serve them anymore, so when I saw them on the menu at The Vault in Berkeley, I jumped on them.
How were they?
Pretty good, maybe not greasy enough (!).
so hard to find good hash browns in Ontario.
I love hash browns. The best are at the Waffle House, but the ones the Palm offered with a rare steak, creamed spinach, and a martini are a good memory forty years later.
Fauchon at Bryant Park in NYC serves a fantastic hash brown.
