It’s the panini of dips ;'-)
Wraps should be banned forever.
Yeah, could we please NOT do that in this thread?
As I asked specifically in my OP, I do not care for yet another hair-splitting, endless meta-discussion about what does (or does not) constitute a sandwich.
Please create a separate thread for that discussion — although it’s been discussed ad nauseam before, since it seems to be a surprisingly fascinating topic.
Thanks so much!
At home, I love liverwurst on rye with pickles and red onions, mayonnaise and mustard.
Nowadays they are a treat rather than an everyday thing.
I enjoy ham, roast beef, and turkey sandwiches IF they are sliced from real pieces of meat but I’ve pretty much sworn off the ones made from prepackaged sliced meat. Life’s too short to eat bad sandwiches.
As in real life, discussions will go where discussions will go. Regardless of intentions of conversation starters
An Italian sausage and pepper sandwich is, well, a sandwich. It’s quite common here, though usually served on a nice Italian roll rather than a hot dog-type bun. And on menus it is always listed under Sandwiches.
They can, and they very often do. That said, I would hope that my wishes would be respected when I expressly asked to leave that particular tedium out of this discussion.
Of course, I have no control over whether other users will do so. All I can do is ask nicely
If there is such a burning desire to discuss sandwich parameters, it’s easy enough to create a separate thread for it.
I guess I’m old and resigned . . . you can ask, but people are going to do what people do. And TBH, the fact that you felt the need to ask indicates you knew the discussion would lend itself to the age-old sandwich debate.
No filet o fish in your list?!?!
Yes, I’ve been on this forum — and before that on CH — long enough (almost 10 years, actually) to be aware of the alluring mystery the hot dog/sandwich discussion holds for some.
I can’t tell how long you’ve been around since your profile is hidden
Here’s the problem. It inevitably eclipses the OPs original question and destroys the thread because it devolves into useless arguments. We’re usually better than this around here. One person feels better, everyone else is denied a fun and informative thread.
Favourites:
Homemade egg +/- cheese on a wholemeal roll
Sausage and Egg McMuffin
Banh mi: grilled pork with pâté, or egg
McDonald’s Filet o fish
McDonald’s hamburger, cheeseburger
Hot-smoked salmon on a wholemeal roll with avocado and/or salad leaves
Agreed. Because it’s really so much more fun to discuss the glorious items we bring together and the sorts of sandwiches that give us joy. I still need to make my comprehensive list (so many of my faves have been listed) but oh my can I add: Pan Bagnat, Toast Cannibale, and a whitefish bagel (with tomatoes, onions, and capers). I have others, but want to redirect fast.
Thank you! And I look forward to your delicious list!
i think about this every time someone takes the colbert questionnaire: the first question is ‘what’s your favorite sandwich?’
i have two:
when tomatoes are in season, a blt on whole wheat toast, sliced guanciale, and trader joe’s garlic spread (or mayo, but the garlic spread is great).
the rest of the year, a french onion grilled cheese: gruyère , caramelized onion (always have a jar in the freezer) on whole wheat.
I had to look this up - this is super-simple and looks very tasty!
So, basically bœuf tartare on toast?
I can groove to that. The bovine cousin of a Mettbrötchen
Apologies . . . I knew I was being argumentative when I posted and should have deleted it immediately. You obviously have much more history with this site than I.
As an aside: I apparently joined in Feb, 2018. This was probably about the time I was booted from Chowhound. I don’t remember joining, but last month when I was signing up I was informed I already had an account. So I’ve had the account for 7 yeaars, but only started reading/posting last month. I guess my profile was established in 2018.
Oh yeah, I love a good bacon/sausage, egg and cheese on a kaiser roll
No apologies required. In fact, learning that you’re a fellow CH bootee is amusing
