Well, it IS Christmas Eve … the theme of expecting someone is kind of built in to the occasion - like, what if there’s no room at the inn?

Not xmas eve but I always make fish cakes for xmas breakfast:

These are made with salt cod in a ci pan. One of my grandmothers recipes. Delicious & they put you right back on the couch for a nap.
