What are you watching? (2026)

Billy Crystal was a favorite.

I’ll be celebrating the OBAA victory with a few small beers (actually it was a Younger Pliny from 2023). Penn not showing up to collect his Oscar, might have been the most Sean Penn thing he could have done. was glad to see the Sinners recognition as well. another film I adored.

The Lowdown? Yeah, didn’t get past the 1st or 2nd epi of that one, either.

I happen to like Steve Carell & can forgive that story line, as I find the other ‘plots’ entertaining. But we’ll see how it continues.

I used to think he was funny back in The Office days — before I (and others) found out that David Brent’s underlying insecurity and downright nastiness seem to very much be a part of his own personality.

If his lame fat jokes weren’t enough — after he himself lost weight, of course, and before he put a bunch back on, of course (oh, karma, sometimes you do work!), his constant kicking down on vulnerable populations are. And his only joke these days seems to be about how PC ruined everything, and he can’t joke about stuff anymore without “being canceled.”

Yes, sir, you very much can. You and the rest of your ilk do it allllll the fucking time without any major repercussions.

That said — and this is a BIG “that said”: the Golden Globes (not Oscars) he hosted were the best ever.

But then making fun of superrich celebrities who gather to celebrate each others’ accomplishments is very much not kicking down.

/ hops off the soapbox, tears another tendon or two

He was a caricature, but I think that was the intention (never having read the Pincheon book it is based on).

Some stunning gowns, but the utterly emaciated women (with too few exceptions) wearing them made me hope they were served a few sandwiches… :scream:

Agreed. I noticed a few of them disappeared when they turned sideways. That’s the one thing that always bothers me about the entertainment industry is the unrealistic body image they are sending to the rest of us.

It’s disgusting. I applaud anyone who doesn’t conform to these ridiculous standards.

Yes, my bad. I can’t tell one crappy award show from another

The GGs are always more fun bc there’s booze & food — although the latter is probably just for the male actors

I also very much enjoyed his Golden Globes hosting, but oy, gevalt. And I don’t like to speak ill of the dead, but Norm McDonald was even worse.

Earlier, maybe? A lot of stuff that was acceptable & considered funny in the 70s, 80s & even 90s was no longer ‘ok’ nor should it be, and less so with each passing year.

It’s unfortunate that several folks have chosen a weird hill to die on — Chappelle, Seinfeld, et al.

Mais non. 2020, 8 months before his death.

Oh, I was hoping this had deetz on the offensive parts.

It’s pretty much what you think.

Best take…

Perfect. I’ll have to check this guy’s stuff out — thx so much for sharing!

Watched Inside the Manosphere last night. Good documentary about the “Alpha Male” scammers/predators/grifters out there. I’ve never heard about any of these fools, except for the uber toxic Tate bros. What a waste of skin these fukers are and sad how easily manipulated the kids they prey on are. Sad times we live in :frowning:

I don’t think I can watch that. I encounter these losers too often online to spend anymore time on the subject / these subjects.

Sad times indeed.
