I don’t know how or why, but suddenly there’s lots of folks (that are at least 10-20 years younger than myself, a mid-50’s dude) rightly singing the praises of Steely Dan, which made me go back and give Aja a listen, probably for the first time in 30 years or so.
It’s more or less perfect. Not a bad track on it, and every note is placed just so.
And it contains “Peg”, a song with a Marotta drum groove so infectious it rivals Pocarro on “Rosanna” and Gadd on “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” (and Gadd has his own highlight, the solo / duet section on “Aja” w/ WAYNE SHORTER!)
