I was in Pittsburgh for a few days last month (50th college reunion). My 2 favorite meals were at Point Brugge Cafe and Max’s Allegheny Tavern.
This is a fantastic list. Thank you for sharing!
Helpful, ty!
Any chance the @moderators can change the title to reflect the correct spelling of PittSburgh?
Oh lord… just noticed the typo!!!
No worries. One of my jobs has me extra-sensitive to typos. It happens to the best of us, and clearly was an easy fix
Also should mention that Primanti Brothers is owned by a private equity firm these days. No longer locally owned and operated. Morphed into a chain.
Finally had a chance to look through that list & share with my PGH posse for comments
I see a bunch of my recommendations — Kaya, Penn Ave Fish Co., Bae Bae, Parilla, Alihan’s made the cut, but I was really surprised to see Con Alma missing. Fet Fisk may just be too new to have been included.
I also hear great stuff about Chengdu Gourmet from my buddies, but we rarely go for Sichuan while traveling, as it’s one of very few cuisines our town in the boonz does right.
@rstuart have you chosen your various meals yet? Looking forward to hearing about your experience in the 'burgh
I had a great time there! Conference was a bit more intense than expected but will report back on meals… didn’t have a bad one!!
YAY! Can’t wait to read about your culinary adventures
Pittsburgh is a fantastic food city.
The conference was at the convention centre, and my hotel was a 15 minute walk away. Like most American conferences, it started way too early so unimaginative breakfasts grabbed from Starbucks/a bagel place to eat during first plenary, supplemented with fruit from the downtown Target.
Had lunch the first day at alihanas: can’t remember what exactly, but from their lunch menu, and very good. Tried both strawberry pretzel salad ( yes) and sandwich with fries ( meh) at an event at the conference… that was it for dinner. The next day I went to Rosewater, for lunch . Again can’t remember exactly what I ordered but some kind of salad with chicken and pita chips. Had dinner at Nicky’s thai kitchen: dish was some sort of tofu and veggie mix in coconut sauce which was inhaled. Another hit. Lunch the next day at Arapitta, another excellent choice. I spent the next few days in Mount Lebanon where a friend lives, but did get into the city most days ( via less than stellar public transit). Lunch one day at Kaya… i tried a veggie cuban sandwich, which was surprisingly good.
Lunch another day at a random crepe place near the Carnegie Museum, which was another hit for me. A few meals in Mount Lebanon with the friend: dinner at il Pizzaiolo, and breakfasts at Anthos and Mediterra. The breakfast sandwich at Mediterra was particularly good. All good until I got home, looked at my credit card bill, and remember how bad our exchange rate is. Thanks to everyone on this thread for their help!
