I have a two pack of the TJās French Onion Soup. I ate one and was not terribly impressed. Lots of cheese, but the broth was not great. I havenāt eaten the second and wonāt buy any more.
The French Onion Soup at Cafe Brussels on Houston Ave down a piece from Stantonās Grocery and at Bistro Provence are really good though!
And speaking of Stantonās, Iāve never been there for the world famous burger. I need to go before itās gone.
I had my doubts about the product; thanks for taking one for the team .
I have been to Stantonās several times; never got the raves. However, I was there before there was any provision to eat on premises. I had to find some place close by to park and eat in the car because it was way too far to drive home. That huge burger was a mess to handle like that. I judged the experience was not worth it like that; I thought the burgers at both Christianās (original on Washington) and Langford were better, anyway.
Iām sure being able to eat on premises would be an improvement.
I went yesterday, maybe the first time to TJās this year. I didnāt see much in the flyer that interested me except the Zhoug sauce. Zhug is used in the restaurants in Meyerland (along with harissa). Itās a Yemeni hot sauce/paste brought to Israel by Yemeni Jews. You can buy the Sabra brand at Beldenās, possibly also at the Randallās and Kroger on S. Post Oak.
TJās is a thinner sauce, meant to be used as a dip I think. I only had Triscuit type crackers in house to try it with but I like it. Iām looking forward to trying it on sandwiches and with eggs.
TJās (and Aldi) have Irish Bangers, 2 varieties each. I still have the bangers left over from last year so I wonāt be trying them.
The only thing I saw in-store that interested me were the shrimp and crab pot stickers, which I donāt remember ever seeing before, but both my freezers are full and I decided to pass (also passed on the shrimp and crab ravioli at Aldi earlier).
The store was more packed than Iāve ever seen it, almost as busy as Iāve ever seen the Voss or Shepherd stores.
This store is typically not busy at all. My hair dresser is in that center so I stop in regularly.
Repeat purchases now include the chopped fresh Hatch chiles in the freezer section, I got the last bag a couple of weeks ago. Also bagged artichokes and avocados. French butter. Spanish olive oil.
This site sent me this rather rude message:

I like the frozen Hatch chiles. I have a package and a half in my freezer now. I use about half a package along with some diced poblanos for my green pork chili.
I donāt like the French butter. Iāve tried it twice and found it tasted a bit rancid. Took it back and exchanged it but it was similar. (shrug)
