This doesn’t work for a small household or non milk drinkers, but the Costco milks in wax papered cartons that are 4 to a pack/box last longer than anything we’ve ever bought. At least 6 wks.
Milk PSA:
I buy half gallons because they don’t stock organic milk in quarts. The milk always went bad several days before the carton date.
I bought glass milk bottles to decant the milk into, and have never had that issue again.
Long ago, I briefly lived on what was then the rural/suburban border of Cleveland, in Medina, OH. Long about this time of year, I and my not-yet-ex wanted latkes. We were young, with a small child, and had neither the time nor supplies to make our own. We called around various restaurants. A ‘Big Boy’ just across the highway answered. “Do you have latkes?” “Do we have what?” “Potato pancakes… I want to pick up an order of potato pancakes.” “Uh, sure. 15 minutes…” “Please make sure you include sourcream and applesauce” “… uh… ok.”
I should have known.
I go the place, pick it up, without bothering to look inside the styrofoam box. I get it home: Pancakes. Regular ol’ breakfast pancakes. With chunks of potato mixed into the batter. Included were a couple of butter cubes, maple syrup, sour cream, and apple sauce, each in their little takeout sauce cups.
Oy.
+1. Same with Aldi.
They’re a recipe for regret as a stand-alone snack. Ask me how I know.
The white chocolate mini gingerbread people are tasty.
Aldi has a nice Belgian chocolate “deluxe” calendar for $11.99 ($7.99 on sale).
Mouth burn. Keep eating. Mouth burn. Keep eating. And so on. I held off when I saw them this year.
Lulu is crazy about the minty chocolate stars.
I ate through a few boxes the year a friend recommended them. Now I have wilfull blindness.
Umm. Were you expecting latkes?
MEH from me. They’re tiny, which is good, but not boozy in the way one might expect, which is bad.
We don’t have those here. But I will take your word for it Someone upthread mentioned they had milk, for instance, go bad before the sell by date at many different stores. And while I can’t dispute that, I can say that it happens at TJs way more often than every so often.
Caramel Apple Mochi Ice Cream
Meh. Big big MEH
Apple Cranberry Tart
Yay. Definitely, a yay.
you were expecting latkes?
It was my first time not living in my very Jewish north Chicago suburb or my college town, full of north surburban Jews.
Those pancakes were my first clue I was very much out of my element. The next was when I went to hallmark store for a Chanukkah card. The clerk did not understand. I sighed inwardly. “Like Jewish Christmas…” “Oh! You mean cha-NOO-kah cards. We don’t stock them. Never sold.”
The next move was to Northern California.
Big NAY to Trader Joe’s for discontinuing the frozen Korma Fish Curry and the frozen Shakshuka. I loved both of those for quick, easy dinners. Very disappointing.
I love Tête de Moine, but I find the shaved bits in the packaging to be a bit dry.
Found the full size panettone today!
I agree but after tasting the chocolate, I was happy enough that it was a tiny piece.
