trader joe’s: yay/nay/meh 2022

I think that’s what TJs is best known for - making us love things and breaking our hearts. For me, it was the sour gummies shaped in Ts and Js. They have sour fish, which are only ok.

They also carried a cabernet that I bought once. Generally I don’t like reds, but it was delightful. I have NEVER seen it again, going on 3 yrs now. I always check though.

Same, except lasagna noodles. I donate lasagnas to hungry folks monthly, and TJ lasagna noodles were the best bang for buck. Nice shape to use too. Apparently they decided to make it a seasonal product for winter only. I guess bc lasagna is a christmas food? Anyway, had I only known, I would’ve bought 30 of those before they went away.

Agree that the chili/cheese and chicken tamales are nice. The chicken hasn’t been in my freezer section at TJs for a couple years though. If you eat beef, the beef ones are also tasty. Same freezer 2 pk. I’ve not tried the black bean version.

I remove the tamales from the plastic and wrap them in a wet paper towel a few times, then mic for 3 min. They don’t come out rubbery, but it my paper towels haven’t managed to cover the open side well enough, that side does come out a little hard. I just don’t have the patience to steam them…

YAY - Greek yogurt. I never thought to get this from TJ. It’s the closest to Fage. The other brands all scratch my throat, don’t know why.

I agree that the TJ Greek yogurt is close to Fage. I mostly buy Fage but will grab TJ’s in a pinch.

My huge NAY is that they discontinued two regular purchases - the veggie meatballs and more upsettingly, the flax chia peanut butter. I ate that peanut butter every single day on toast in the morning.
I’ve started eating Teddie’s with flaxseed, but it’s not the same.

So Trader Joe’s has apparently discontinued my wife’s favorite Hemp Seed bars.. Is anyone aware of a viable replacement at a similar moderate price?

I will be visiting a Trader Joe’s while on vacation. Anything frozen or refrigerated is out, so what can people recommend that is shelf-stable? (We’re driving, so space is not a big issue.)

Their spice section is always interesting and they rotate fairly often.
I always pick up a lemon spray .

$1.99 in a pump bottle.

They have a pretty nice Spanish olive oil, good for finishing dishes and making dressings.
We also like the nut selection, prices are good. Agree with the spice recommendations.
Irish breakfast tea bags.

The grapefruit and lemon pump soaps for kitchen use.

Have a good vacation!

Totally forgot about soaps and stuff.
Good call!

YAY to the Olive and Herbs Mixed Nuts. These are assorted nuts plus dried Kalamata olives seasoned with different herbs and a touch of sugar. They’re slightly sweet, but the olives add a nice umami note.

Pretty much anything chocolate-covered.

Exactly. I’ve been doing it since last November.
