Tipping in Europe

I spend half my time in a town of 30,000 in Northern Italy, three months per trip. There is a tip jar on the counter by the cash register. The wait person is always the same. I never see anyone tip. But I leave €10 in the jar at the end of each trip to the town thinking she deserves a little extra for tolerating stupid Americans.
By the way, the price listed on the menu is what you pay. If there is a service charge it is listed on the menu, usually €2 per person. The wait person gets medical, and a pension for being a registered resident. Foreigners who are registered pay €360 per year for medical care. Sales tax (IVA or value added tax) is included in the price of everything. No add ons.

I cannot find anything that confirms tipping is illegal in Zambia.

I cannot imagine going out of my way to travel somewhere that avoids tipping.

In fact, most of my favourite places are nicer places to visit if you tip well as a traveller (or a local).

It’s in the tourism act.
But as I said, not enforced and everyone tips.

What a horrible person!

I find deceiving customers distasteful at best.
