Yes, the sweetness is what I find off-putting. I’m very sensitive to sweet flavors in savory dishes. I’ve had very good Styrian-style pumpkin soup at Austrian restaurants that are usually topped with pumpkin seed oil (which I love) and toasted pumpkin seeds.

Thanks for this. For along time, it was my favorite place to bring out of town visitors. Then, I had a couple disappointing visits to Helmand, and was hoping for some hint that I’d caught them in bad spell that they could recover from. I’ll have to give them another shot.
