For those interested, there is a very good (and well written) article about the current state of knowledge around food noise and GLP1 medication
Interesting.
It’s really weird how a single person has the unique experience of their own body-mind and somehow presumes that this is the same for everyone.
There are degrees of that. IFor instance. didn’t know other people weren’t experiencing certain forms of pain and presumed everyone was pushing through. At the same time, I’d never presume that if I could do X then it was simply a matter of will for anyone else to do it.
Now that I read the whole thing (oof) I found it interesting that Noom is mentioned specifically — an outfit that claimed to help people lose weight by “simply being mindful,” aided by pop quizzes and fairly common platitudes.
The moment GLP-1s were readily available, Noom added them to their program, which implies to me that mindfulness alone apparently wasn’t doing the trick. Bit of a copout, in my mind ![]()
I’ve been at least “chubby” for most of my life. Got down to 117 once by being on a doctor supervised 500 calorie diet. Later had gastric bypass, lost 90 lbs.
The only thing before Ozempic that eliminated hunger was Fen-Phen.
Now I’m 135, 10 lbs away from my “goal.” I can fit into some clothes I’ve been saving for over 30 years!
So far, I haven’t had any bad side effects from Ozempic but I’m wary of long term use. My A1C is 5.6!
I have to eat VERY LITTLE in order to lose weight, often only eating a baked apple for dinner.
Yup. Hormones are absolute killer once you reach a certain age as a woman.
500 calories is starvation level. I hope you eat more than that these days (if you can).
I think I have to be under 1,000 to lose any lbs.
One reason I had a weight problem, when I was a child all I ever drank was ice cold coca colas in glass bottles. At 12 I moved to El Salvador, there it was cokes and freshly squeezed orange juice. Abundant ignorance.
Oh yeah, that’s far too much sugar. I rarely drink juice, but eat a lot of fruit (blueberries, mangoes, apples, citrus, kiwis, etc.), and cut out soda over a decade ago, save for the very rare Mexicoke that I always share with my PIC.
Mexican Cokes are a very rare treat for me, my drug of choice!
I can only have it as a counter-balance / complement to very salty or spicy food. Or with a cheeseburger, bc at that point WGAF, really. It’s not something I indulge in regularly or often.
Diet sodas taste pretty bad to me. I don’t miss it. Sparkling water is my groove.
I like Mexi-coke and bought a flat on sale…but realized I can’t/shouldn’t drink except on occasion like with a decent burger or Cuba Libre. So the flat sat in a closet as I tried to figure out what I’d do with them. Then I started giving them to any worker coming to my house for whatever reason. It sounds like an advert but they seemed to appreciate the Mexi-Coke over any other soft drink. Not a tip but a nice gesture. Also tipping didn’t seem appropriate in some situations, like house painters doing the whole complex.
An ice-cold Mexicoke is a thing of beauty. No diet, no zero, no whatever other version of Coke comes even close.
Very thoughtful, lovely treat!
Goes really well with spicy Mexican food and Pepperoni Pizza.
I used to drink a lot of diet soda … before there was all the info on them being unhealthy!
On the plus side: I never smoked, never used drugs for “fun”, now don’t drink, just use alcohol to cook with (like Bourbon Cranberry Sauce).
Can’t say that’s true for me, but of course I don’t make nearly as many bad decisions as I did in my yout’ ![]()
I never really liked alcohol. I do love very light German type white wines.
German whites are some of the best in the world, so that doesn’t surprise me.
Once, on a riverboat on the Rhine, I had lovely white wine that was inexpensive. The ones I’ve bought here are Trimbach (Alsace I think).
Rieslings are known to pair well with lighter Asian cuisines like Cantonese.
100% agree! Whether it’s trying a new recipe, baking with my nieces, or travelling to a new destination to try a sandwich, food is a huge part of my life.
Thankfully I’m in fairly good health and I don’t have blood sugar or obesity issues. Well, maybe I could drop a dress size or two, but I’m nowhere near an unhealthy weight. So I don’t need these GLPs like some may. Honestly, I couldn’t imagine life without so-called food noise. I’m definitely a “live to eat” type and the thought of taking weight loss drugs like this don’t fit with my lifestyle.
