The Big Fat Nostalgia Thread For All

Reminds me of a music teacher in elementary school calling the Beatle’s music a “flash in the pan” - now it’s elevator music, not that I’ve even heard that, in a good long while. My mom loved Louis Armstrong, no doubt influenced me. Had him played at her memorial service. Also heavy Eddy Arnold influences as well as Hank Williams, and a lot of other early C &W types. An uncle gave me a stack of 78 rpm records of the like, that I played faithfully. The green colored types of the era. Oh boy, we are going way back, now…

RCA 45’s were color coded. You’re correct, country was green.

Wow, had no idea @bbqboy, thanks!

I had an Italian aunt with dyed blonde hair up in a beehive. Lots of eye makeup, false eyelashes and pink lipstick. She thought the world of Conway Twitty.:grinning:
Women fans drive country music

During the time period we only had one TV which was in my father’s home office. TV was therefore only an option when he wasn’t working on lessons or grading papers. For “date night at home” he lugged the TV upstairs to my bedroom or my sisters and we could watch TV and eat there. The only time we had TV upstairs and the only time we were allowed to eat upstairs. I vaguely remember my mother always vacuuming the next day. grin

Some time in there as the Viet Nam war escalated we got a second, also black & white TV and watched the news in the dining room during dinner between my father’s day job and evening job.

I think our first color TV appeared about the time I left for college (probably something to do with my full-ride scholarship grin).

Sitting in my home office/lab I have four screens in front of me plus a phone, three behind me, and a myriad of others around the house. Time has truly marched on, and that is with a strong distaste on my part for IoT.

That was a biggie - English muffin pizzas. And we first learned to make them in Home Ec! It became a staple snack for me and my BFF. But my mom was never home, so we’d go to her place after school and her mom always had onion garlic potato chips and mallomars!!! Or we’d make the pizzas.

At my grandmother’s on a Saturday night (and in those cases there was good food) we were all about Gunsmoke, The Defenders, and there was something else. Great Saturday lineup. But if I was home and if our super, Mrs. Staubi was babysitting me, it was Lawrence Welk.

@winecountrygirl, was it Sea Hunt on Saturday nights, after Gunsmoke?Remember that from the era too, it seems. My G-Ma was a fan of Lawrence Welk, so sometimes watched it with her. Didn’t Lawrence always call it the Champagne :champagne: hour? Thought it was special seeing all the little bubbles in the air, amid couples dancing. Then, soon enough there was American Bandstand. Boy, we are going way back - this thread is bringing back forgotten (almost) memories.

@Lambchop - yes, Sea Hunt with Lloyd Bridges.

I’m thinking in my house it was ketchup.

I don’t remember watching many of the above. I like to think I’m too young-

I do remember watching Dark Dhadows if I rushed home from school, and Ed Sullivan ( especially The Supremes and The Jackson Five! Be still my heart! No DON’T be still! ) .

I also remember some Disney thing . I sang some Disney thing to my kids when they were infants.

“Now its time to say goodbye to all our company…M-i-c…k-e-…y… m-o-u-s-eeeee.”

Ketchup went on spaghetti but we hid that fact for years.

One of our favorite shows, Lost In Space was on from 7 to 8. My bedtime was 7:30, my older brother’s 8:00. So of course I had to go bed when Will was up to his knees in quicksand with the robot yelling Danger! Danger! Then wait until the next morning to find out what happened. Some things you never forget.:slightly_smiling_face:
