They had plans for the scrip club later

That didn’t not occur to me.

Singles wouldn’t cut it at a scrip club these days.

Kids touching baked goods, and not taking the baked goods they touch. Parents should be buying the baked goods their children touch.

Kids misbehaving at buffets is another huge turn-off. The last couple buffets where children were running around touching stuff, at a nice hotel in Japan (January 2020), I started making an audible “eww, that’s disgusting “ so the parents could hear me.

You’d know better than I.

Wouldn’t it be more effective to actually say something to the parents directly?

I bet quarters would make you even less popular.

Another peeve: Selling vegetables by the piece, rather than by weight. When peppers are $1 each, you can bet that each and every one has been handled by all the shoppers ahead of you so they can take the biggest ones left in the bin. So not only do I then get the small ones, but each one has been repeatedly massaged.

This is a problem I have with Trader Joe’s, but not because I’m squeamish about people handling stuff I’m going to wash anyway. It’s that I rarely have need of a gigantic onion, and that seems to be all they sell.

Lemons and avocados and pineapple by the piece bothers me not at all.

I pick out the biggest Granny Smith apples regardless of how they’re priced. :smirk:

The problem I always had when living in Santa Cruz was . Whats up with the parking lot . Eyes wide open when backing up slowly. Its tiny.
The chatty checkers . Can we just keep the line moving .
Other than that . Go early . Some really great items .

The main takeaway from all of this . Always acknowledge the person serving you is doing a great job . And say . Thank you. You will be remembered when ordering again.

I find most parents deny that their kids are doing anything wrong, when I’ve spoken to them.

I’ve run into a few conflicts with parents on planes, and now I’d rather just let them know their children are disgusting or rude.

Well, that’s certainly a great ice breaker / conversation starter.

If the kids are disgusting and rude, chances are great that so are the parents.

It is surprising how pleased checkers and other grocery employees seem to be with just small acknowledgement that their service is appreciated.

I’m with you. Aside from a few dinks who can’t find the cart corral after unloading, and the “abuse” of the electric scooters at WalMart, I shop pretty stress free.

Recently, I had one older woman rearrage my groceries (on the checkout conveyor belt) so that she could fit her stuff on the belt. She (kind of) crushed my bread and I said “Please don’t do that, the clerk is about to move the belt and you can put the rest of your stuff up”
She said something like “Just trying to help”… At that point, I realized she wasn’t “all there” and had issues (possibly Alzheimer’s or dementia).
