My point exactly. We have all for the most part stepped up to the demands and restrictions imposed by pandemic. I have been impressed by the willingness to sacrifice personal comfort and accept restr4ictions and shortages. So it is with some annoyance that I encounter shoppers with a sense of entitlement. We’re ALL entitled, and our turns will return sooner than later if we all retrench a bit.
Yes! Where I shop it seems any one with a kid has that sense of entitlement. Oh, aren’t they cute running around the store like idiots. NO. And those carts with the cars, absolutely. And the father with the kids is worse. On the phone with the wife making sure he’s getting the right thing while the kid runs around. Whew, that rant felt good!
I’m fast becoming an entitled old guy. One who feels markets are like freeways…they were built for me.
Self entitled people that park in fire lanes and sit there while the loved one shops all while rendering the entrance to the store a de facto one lane. It happens all the time.
All of the ancient people in pastels, white sneakers, wrap around dark glasses and golf clothes are going to be showing up on our part of Cape Cod, soon. Usually one of them parks in the fire lane while the slow boat with low vision goes inside, has white grip knuckles on the cart, and doesn’t meet the steps on the Fitbit monitor while in the store. How they manage, I never know. I often feel bad for them, actually. When I get to the point where my husband waits for me in the fire lane while I fumble around for groceries, I’m gonna be f#ck this shit and call it in.
Our local grocery and all the others in the chain have posted signs and poles in the fire lanes. Fire engines just drive right over them as do utility ambulances. There was some complaining but according to the manager at the grocery I frequent many more thank yous from other customers (including me).
Maybe it’s a local thing, but I never see people sitting in fire lanes at my supermarket (Aberdeen (NJ) Shoprite).
I just used one of those grocery delivary services for the second time. The first time was a week ago, and I was surprisingly pleased. This time they subbed fat free half and half for half and half. I can’t even remember why I bought it. I made a point of saying no sub for the whole milk yogurt but fat free half and half didn’t occur to me.
And that is why I prefer to do my own shopping!!
I maintain that curbside pickup and delivery are the silver lining of COVID.
There is definitely a difference between various stores. I’ve posted before that the best experience comes from stores that have expanded the roles of shelf stockers to include picking and delivery, at least for curbside. That includes Giant Food, Safeway, WalMart, Target, and Sam’s Club. Those who have outsourced are pretty uniformly mediocre including Publix, Food Lion, and Wegmans. Instacart in particular is simply horrid both for performance and administration. I’ve had Instacart decide a credit card had insufficient information and terminate an order mid-delivery! I’ve had managers at two different Publix stores apologize directly but they have no authority over the Instacart people; that’s all “managed” out of corporate offices.
This was Safeway and I noticed at different time slots they had different options and prices depending on the one you picked.
@winecountrygirl I prefer to do it myself too, but both times I was unable to drive. It was good to have the option, and glad I didn’t do it because I needed half and half.
It’s a great option to have
That’s something I haven’t seen. Every place I’ve shopped you do all your shopping first, get a total, and then pick the time slot. Your number changes depending on that time slot?
I just checked my Safeway cart and moved my pickup time all around without any cost change.
“I wasn’t parked. I was just stopped.”
Every time I round the corner at the local Kroger I tell the Wifeacita there will be the obligatory suv in the fire lane.
The Houston Police Officers getting a Starbuck’s to take on the dregs of society get a special break. I’ve seen them take off at a dead run going to an emergency.
Agreed! I’m ok with cops, fire, medical, and attorneys parking in red zones.
Yes especially attorneys. We’ve got two high powered ones in a dispute over a local football player with multiple suits filed. They must have priority parking in case they have to race off to depose a client.
Lol
Hmmm . . . you’re in Houston. Can I guess the player and attorneys?
Here in Philly I’m getting very annoyed by all the reports linking said player as a trade target for my local team.
