Whaaaat! That sounds like a lot!
WF has skirt steak for $15 lb and it actually looks better to me. WF will also cut it so you only have to buy the middle, not the tapered ends.
SFGate: ‘Consumer harm situation’: Bay Area Safeways caught overcharging for food

I try and avoid Safeway. Always feel like I’m getting gouged.
At least they give you bonus $ if you find they overcharged you; other grocery stores don’t do that.
No kidding, I have a Safeway a block from my house yet I rarely go there - maybe 3 times a year for things I need instantly. The last two time I went there were errors my charges and I had to spend 10 minutes straightening it out and getting a refund. Their “Just for You” program sucks, you have to put the deals/coupons on the app, but then you half the time they don’t get applied at checkout so you have to check immediately after getting receipt - such a hassle. My nephew worked there for a couple years and said its a constant issue.
What happens to the ends you have them cut off?
I guess someone else might buy them.
Cutting scraps—bits of fat, silver skin, chunks of meat that are trimmed off of cuts—are often reused in different products.
Sometimes, they make it into ground beef. Other times, they make it into sausage. In grocery stores with a kitchen and a hot food counter, they may even make it into soups, stews, and braises cooked on-site. Ahem, like the Whole Foods hot bar.
